A friends minature toy poodle is habitually chewing and kneading at the base of her hairline whenever the opportunity exists. What would be the cause of this behaviour and how can it be rectified?

The poodle may have been weaned too early and is trying to express some of it's unresolved nursing tendencies. Give the dog something else to suck, knead on, a furry stuffed animal or something. I've never actually been able to stop them from doing this except by training them and not allowing the behavior to continue.

Fleas? Skin allergies? Maybe the food is an issue. A little chewing is okay but a lot is not. Is the dog nervous? Only the owner knows IF they pay any kind of attention to their dog. If not well then, you know where to go... the Vet
