a friend of mine received a japanese calligraphy as a gift after a period of study in Japan with a well known Zen master, Yomato Mumonroshi ( i am mispelling it!) My friend looked at the drawing .. there was a bold Japanese style swirl in the center and some small swirls underneath it. My friend asked his interpreter what the symbols meant?
He was told that the large main stroke was the Japanese symbol for "Happiness"
So then he asked 'what do the small stokes mean/say'?
And he was told they said.
"i dont want it"
