And she dissappeared for over a week! I was scared to death thinking she got hit by a car or something, then she shows back up, filthy, and with something that appears to be either a very deep sucking tick or a cut under her nose. Besides giving her a bath, what else should I do? She's been spayed but I'm not sure about rabies vaccinations, she got shots during a happy kitten checkup, but not sure what...any suggestions?

Take her to the vet and get a thorough check up. Make sure you keep your vet records for futre reference. Get a kitty harness to take her outside on. Otherwise keep her in. Good luck!

I would take her to the vet right away. Tell him/her what happened and see what they suggest. If it is a tick, then don't mess with it, let the vet deal with it. Ticks heads actually come off their bodies, so if you try and pull it out the head will remain and could cause other problems.
Next time, don't let the kitty out unless you're sure they have had all their shots! If she got into a fight with another cat who knows what that cat may have had or was carrying. That idea with the windows with screens was a good one, my cats love that. Plus there are harnesses and leashes for cats now so you can take them out under your careful watch.

My cat used to be an outside cat (before we got her). The way we broke her of that was to distract her from the door with a yummy treat. It may take a few repetitions, but it works. Now both my cats go out on harness and leash (never alone).
I agree. Take your kitty to the vet for a check-up.

take the cat to the vet asap!! cats should have their full shots once a year. you should also keep the cat in the backyard only.
there are so many plants that are just as dangerous as some animals the cat could come into contact with.

I wouldn't worry. If there is a tick pull it off. No need to go to vet. If my cat did that crap I wouldn't even let it back in.
I'm just kidding.
Is there a limit to how mad a cat can make a human sometimes?

Take her to the vet asap. Cats by nature are hunters. Try opening a window with a screen on it for her to look out that seems to satisfy our cats.
