OK i know it's really good to use it, but if you don't use it, is it really bad? what are things that could happen over time if you never use moisturizer? does your skin get hard or something?

Moisturizer keeps the skin from drying out, primarily- and is nourishing for the skin. It feels GREAT, if you haven't tried it, you should!

Primarily, what I tell my customers- is that moisturizer makes your makeup look and feel more natural. I begin skin care classes by telling women to take a liquid based foundation (that's WAY darker or lighter than your skin tone, so that you can see it). Put moisturizer on one hand, and not on the other. Now rub the foundation into both hands. You will see a HUGE difference. The foundation that's applied on top of moisturizer will look smoother and less "fake and caked on". The foundation that's applied directly to dry skin will look like powder and have lines in it.

Finally.. moisturizer closes your pores, and is important to apply after a cleanser/exfoliator/toner. So if you don't put it on and apply makeup, you are basically putting makeup directly into open pores, causing acne.

Let me know if I didn't answer this question or if you need more help, or free samples of moisturizers.

The reason why a moisturizer is needed is because when a person washes their face, they remove all the oils and when you're done, all the natural oils that are good for your skin are also gone so moisturizer helps to bring back the natural oils that keep our skin looking young and supple. If you haven't used any SPF either in a moisturizer or otherwise, then yes it's bad. It causes premature againg from the harmful rays of the sun including wrinkles, age spots, fine lines, etc. Put on some moisturizer with SPF!

Rose Petal's answer is absolutely correct. The only thing I would add is that moisturizing the skin improves it's ability to produce the collagen and elastin fibers that help our skin to stay soft, supple, and smooth for years to come. In 10 years your face is going to look exactly the way you've prepared it to look. If you've kept it hydrated, it will look soft and smooth. If you've neglected hydration, then you could see early signs of aging, sagging, wrinkling, all things that happen when the skin begins to loose its elasticity.

no, i don't think your skin gets hard, but it could get dry. a lot depends on your age, too.
if you're young, you can get away with skipping moisturizer, but it does make your skin feel good and it's important to use when you get older.

In the winter months, as the weather becomes colder, your skin will start to dry out, regardless if you use a moisturizer or not.
My advice, at least TRY to prevent this from occuring, because believe me, it is terrible to mend. Try using Oil of Olay or Cetaphil. They work the best.
