My boyfriend & I are looking for a decadent way to end a fine meal we plan to have. How does this sound?: Fonseca Tawny 10 yr. Port, a couple of dark chocolate truffles, and a cigar afterwards. Any reccomendations on port & truffle combinations? Is adding a cigar afterwards too much? Neither of us have actually had any port wine before, but looking forward to trying it! I don't want anything vintage, don't want to deal with decantering & the price! Thanks!

the cigar is a perfect end to a decadent meal! My best reccomondation for the port wine is to go to a reputable store and ask the person who knows the most about wines. Explain your plan, telling him or her about the cigar and the truffles. This way they can find you a port that is reasonable, tasty, and goes well with the rest of the meal.

All 3 would seem as if it might clash. The sweetness in port and truffles would clash with each other and the cigar would give you a woodsy taste in your mouth. A previous poster suggested cheese, and that is also an excellent suggestion.

Try Port, Stilton, and figs.

Fonseca is a great choice. It is one of the few wineries that still make their port in Portugal where port originated.

I enjoy cigars and feel that they might tarnish the flavor of the port. Maybe if you were having cognac or even brandy, but I think the flavor of port would be lost.

If you still want the cigar, enjoy it after dessert!

It is a great combo and have done it a number of times! I like the Macanudo, Robust Cigars with Tawny Port. I think if you end with the cigars it should be fine. Watch out, Port will definitely sneak up on you!

If you are going decadent with a good port, have a good cheese tray with some stilton or cheddar cheese with it (strong flavored cheeses are good). Fruits could be strawberries, raspberries, cherries. Maybe some nuts like walnuts, pecans or hazelnuts. No chocolate, its just too sweet, even the dark chocolate. The cigars are up to you, lol, I think they are stinky and mess up the taste of the port.

I would do cognac or brandy with the chocolate then finish off with a sorbet to cleanse your palette. I smoked for years, and a cigar would leave a nasty taste in your mouth. A lemon sorbet with a peppermint leaf would by a good finish.

Forget ending the meal, helk, I want to hear about the rest of the meal. The ending sounds heavenly.

Go nuts and have a good time. Dance afterwards.
