I just got back from swimming alittle bit ago and I wanted to dye my hair. The box says not to wash hair before using so I rinsed it instead. Theres still chlorine in it ? Is it ok to dye my hair if its dry and has chlorine in it. What can happen?

Dear Lynn xx3,
If you want to dye your hair after swim practice, don't. It can and will damage your hair. It's probably safest to get it professionally done, and have it shampooed and conditioned before you dye it.

If you swim frequently, you don't want to dye your hair, anyway. Both chlorine and dye damage hair, making it dry and brittle. Plus, the chlorine will mess with the color of the dye, probably turning it brassy. If you don't swim regularly, rinse your hair well and add a little conditioner. Let it dry naturally and then dye it. If you are dying it darker, you do not have to be so concerned because going darker does not damage your hair as much (because there is no need to lighten it, it is less drying).

If you swim often there is always going to be chlorine in it, nothing should happen, but irritated scalp and stained skin,
