A Catholic deacon can.

I cannot speak for other denominations.

With love in Christ.

I know a Methodist deacon can perform a marriage (Methodist deacons are ordained...sort of) I think Catholic deacons can as well. Other denominations sort of vary. I know in some churches elders of the church are also referred to as deacons. The state may not recognize them as eligible to oversee the vows therefore they can't actually perform the legal part of it. There is nothing that says they can't do your wedding tho. You'll just have to be sure there is someone there to do the legal stuff either during or after the ceremony.

Maybe a licensed officiant can meet you and your groom and witnesses in a room just before the reception and take care of the legal stuff.

Talk to your church secretary or pastor. I'm sure the church has a list of guidelines of what can go on and what can't go on. Most likely if the deacon is a member of the same church as the pastor and you have a good enough reason I don't see why not. I'm not too sure but I also think that the deacon would have to have the authority to marry you. He might have to have taken a class to get ordained. Check with the deacon too. To make sure he is licensed to marry. Good Luck!

Im 16 and am a preacher (im young i know, but God called me -- take it up with him haha) I believe that a Deacon can perform a wedding but i think a preacher should really be the one to do it. That way you arent before any Joe Shmoe int he churhc or a deacon but a preacher/pastor. Marriage is a union between 2 people before God and man. And I believe you should have the preacher becasue he has been called to lead the church as a pastor so that should be his doing to lead that ceremony -- not a deacon.

No a catholic deacon isn't allowed to do a marriage ceremony ceremony, till now no longer right now he's given the authority and skill by using way of the archbishop, that is unusual. It doesnt count style style the placement the marriage happens they even though opt for the permission from the arch bishop, a priest can no longer do confession or many diverse rites jointly as they grow to be ordained, they could serve the archbishop and recieve his blessing and permission.

This would depend on the religion. My dad was a Deacon in the Ukrainian Catholic church and he conducted many weddings.

Yes, a deacon can perform the ceremony...most do it more often than the resident priest.

I am Catholic and the Deacon at our church is marrying us. But it might depend on the religion. I would think as long as they are ordained it would be fine.

In the Catholic Church, deacons are ordained, so yes
Not true in all religions though, ask your Pastor.

Only if he has been ordained & recognized as such by the church with ordination papers.
If he is in a state such as Ohio, he would also need to be licensed in order for the marriage to be legal.

Anyone who is a legally licensed officiant in your state can perform a wedding, no matter of what their job title is. You run the risk of it not being official if you go with someone who isnt.
