It depends on exactly what you're looking for...are you trying to buy or sell an image? Are the images you're considering stock photos?

If buying, how much do you want to spend? How do you plan to use them? One-time or minimal use can be very inexpensive -- as little as $1 a photo -- exclusive use more costly.

My personal new favorite is stock photo or image provider http://www.luckyoliver.com. It's cheap but very high quality. I like the search features because I can always find a photo that connects emotionally with my clients' needs. It loads fast, too and lots of photos are available for exclusive purchase.

As an amateur photographer, LO has good payout on royalties -- much better than the average bear.

But LuckyOliver isn't the only thing going by any means. There's Flickr (but be careful about copyright!), and more costly exclusive like Jupiter Images. I suppose a general search for stock photo will generate additional information for you.
Hope this helps!

How about a rich source of public domain images from the Library of Congress?

There is of course webshots.com. You do not say your intent, is it to store your images? To buy images? At www.webshots.com, you can store your images (limited number for free), you can download images for your personal use (daily limit for free, paid account is unlimited.. but only for personal use.)

If you are looking to buy images there is shutterpoint and a variety of other sites like it.
