I was an AF MP for eight years. It all depends on where you are stationed and what the mission is there. If you go to a Northern Tier base you are going to be pulling nuke security. If you go a large mobility base you will be going to the desert. If you go to a base with a large amount of aircraft, guess what you are guarding. If you luck out you will get assigned to a Law Enforcement Flight and get to perform Base Police Duties.
MP's are the red headed step children of the Air Force, but MP's have the luxury of being able to be stationed anywhere in the world, unlike some career fields.
My advice is don't complain and enjoy it. It may seem boring at the time, but you will gain life long friends. Take advantage of down time and take some college classes when time permits. If you don't plan on making a career out of the military, use it as a stepping stone to set up the rest of your life. Congrats and good luck. Best advice I ever received in the military was, "If you don't like the way things are done, make rank and fix it."

The answer above is partially correct. If you are looking at using the military as a stepping stone to a civilian career into Law Enforcement. Most Departments will look favorably upon you as already having experience on the job and that you know what the job entails. A Cook has no clue about Law Enforcement whereas a MP does. It is true though that MP's can and will be deployed anywhere in the World. That just gives you more opportunities to travel. My advice.... Join up and get the most that you can from it. Take as much college while you are in as you can. Set yourself up fro success as much as you can. The Military will give you valuable life long skills and most importantly, the Military will give you personal discipline.
Thank You for willingly serving our Country

I know a couple of people who are security forces, and they love it. You just have to REALLY want to be a cop. You will be standing outside in freezing cold and face-melting heat. A big group of the SPs here are going to Saudi Arabia. 12 hour days, man. It's your call totally, you'll have to be doing it for a while, though, just keep that in mind. Most people I've talked to love it. There's a kind of brotherhood among the SPs

nicely military MP's and AF protection Forces the two do a rather good variety of the comparable issues. so which you will desire to ascertain which way of existence you will prefer to be doing the activity in. do you like a greater laid-back way of existence in the AF. Or do you choose greater of a undertaking in the army? the two way you may no longer pass incorrect.

military police is a bad move in any branch of service. they are universal soldiers, they get deployed for everything, and if your thinking of doing it for a future career in law enforcement, dont believe your recruiter, military is military, mp or cook or mechanic. you will get no extra points for being an mp on any civil service test,
