It depends on whether it is an opening night performance, or is it just an evening performance? Is it a professional international production, a touring national group, or is it a local troupe for your area?
Basically, if you've paid an exorbitant sum, say over 100USD for your tickets, dress formally, a nice dress. If you've paid 50USD for your tickets, wear nice slacks. If you are someone's date, then ask them about the performance, or research the group on the internet, if you find out that it is a once in a lifetime performance, remember that how you feel about your own appearance is going to influence your memory of that night! Wear what you want, what is appropriate, and what looks nice on you!

Either style of dress would be fine!
You could wear whatever takes your fancy, although it must be said that people tend to dress up a little (ie tend not to wear jeans and trainers).
I would add that you should definitely spend the money and buy a programme for this ballet. Although it is a familiar and popular ballet, the last time I saw it, I found it a little confusing and wished I had put my hand in my pocket instead of thinking "phew, 8 quid for a programme?? No thanks!". I would have enjoyed it so much more if had been able to tell what exactly was going on!

Were going to the Nutcracker in Dec. Wear something nice. Preferably a dress or a nice pair of slacks and a blouse.

For Ballet, you want a Ballet slippers/shoes. Black tights is wonderful yet you should want a dance belt (equivalent to a jock strap). relies upon on the instructor - leotard or white t-shirts or casuals. No shorts and leg heaters - relies upon on the instructor, motorbike shorts like in certain situations are ok - no longer something loose from the waist down..

It depends on where you're going. The ballet you typically want to dress nice, that outfit is fine. but if it's just at the local theater or something don't stress yourself and just be confortable.

If it is a special night for you then were what ever you have that makes you feel special. If it is just another night out with friends then go with that motif. Your choice sounds perfectly acceptable to me.
