Everclear, 181 proof, over 90 % alcohol. So strong you can't drink it straight.
And for the record, at about 120 proof Absinthe is not close to the strongest drink. It's banned in many countries because it traditionally contains oil of wormwood, which contains thujone, once believed to be hallucinogenic.

Everclear is 95% alcohol (190 proof). I believe this is the strongest alcohol you can buy that is manufactured for consumption and is readily available. It is prohibited to sell Everclear in some states such as Minnesota though.
Most vodkas and other liquors (rum, whiskey, tequila, etc.) are 40-50% alcohol (80-100 proof)
Absinthe is around 40-70% alcohol (80-140 proof), and was banned not from wormwood, but because of poor manufacturing practices and a smear campaign by the French wine makers in the early 1900's.

Absinthe. A lot of people are saying over 90% but that's quite crazy. Strongest you'll ever get legally would be 89.9%, possibly 90%, but never over.
You shouldn't really drink Absinthe straight anyway, unless your quite stupid, & wanting to put on a show at a party or something "Oh look how crazy I am, drinking Absinthe straight"
90% Vol Absinthe is meant to be burnt over a sugar-cube, refered to as the Bohemian or Czech way of drinking it, so by the time you drink it, although it will blow your mind, it's closer to 70%.
The French way of drinking is with a 60-65% Vol Absinthe, with iced water poured over a sugar cube to create a cloudy drink. Still stronger than most commercial vodka's.
So yes, Absinthe is the strongest drink to come to mind, but taking into account the 'proper' ways of drinking it, you actually consume about 70% vol. max.
And there seems to be some confsuion over which indicates stronger Volume or proof.
Proff is it's flammability, Volume is the measure of alcohol present in the drink. therefore, strength is & should be, measured by Volume.

Probably the stuff they are drinking in Russia. Police in the central Voronezh region confiscated 600 tons of liquids with a 95 percent ethyl alcohol content. Many people have died from drinking it.

I think Absinth is about the strongest commercially available alcohol. Fell off a counter top and split my lip open on that stuff.

Home made hooch, you distill your own fruits or plants. Make it as strong as you want. When fresh (just made it), you can use it to clean a wound due to the fact that it's nearly 100% pure.
By the way, the Absinthe (the green fairy) that you guys are talking about, doesn't mess people up for it's high content in alcohol, it does because of the chemical "thujone" which is inside.
