a couple of my girlfriends have been overly controling. like, the relationship will be going great and them WHAM, she's this controling wrench with no manners! WHY?

Not all females are like that. Some with put on a false appearance to get you to like them then when they feel comfortable with you their true self emerges.

I gues they've hit the point where you 'belong' to them. I've seen it happen and it's nasty! Maybe it's the fear of loosing you so they just try and hold on tighter...
