I'm not trying to be racist and I dont necissarly mean just whites either. but i had asked a question on here that had something to do with "do you know how to cook African food?..." and some white people answered my question saying "I know how to cook collard greens" and "i know how to cook African food, i love to make chitlins".
i'm just wondering. why would they consider soul food to be African food???

It's because they practice being ignorant like they think they will win a prize on here for it! Don't waste your valuable time trying to figure them out - just move on and do you!

Ha ha ha...a lot of people don't really take the time to realize there is even a difference between Africans/Carribbeans/Afro Americans...most can tell the difference in terms of those who are suburban/urban...but that seems about it...but I have a lot of Caucasions ask where my name is from or my "accent" because I apparently don't sound American.

Black Americans tend to know right away

Born and raised in the South - I know what "Soul" food is - I cook many of these dishes. I would never confuse Soul food and African dishes (such as Ethiopian food). Although - I will say that many southern dishes are influenced by African type dishes.

i know what you mean. there is a huge difference. my fiance is Nigerian....and can cook up a storm with that red pepper and some rice...lol. soul food is a lot of salt and fat...and collard greens, maybe with fried foods like chicken. and also corn bread. i hate soul food, maybe because i wasnt raised on it. but yeah..there is a huge difference. Africans use ingredients that mainly come from their country...and if they cant they do the best they can with other stuff, in my case American stuff. its nothing like soul food..but it is very hearty like soul food. just waaaaaaay more hot.

African food and "soul food" could NOT be more different. Nobody considers soul food to be "African." African-American, sure.

Well every Soul Food restaurant that I've been to the owners, chef and workers were African American I assumed Soul food was of African American Culture and then there's the movie...I'm sorry did I assume wrong?

Probably because black Americans have taken to calling themselves African-Americans, thence giving the impression of being African.
