Garnishment may not exceed 10% of gross salary. Monies may not be withheld if disposable weekly earnings are less than $154.50 per week or $309.00.00 every 2 weeks

In New Jersey, garnishment cannot exceed 10% of your gross income. If you make less than $154.50 every week or $309 every two weeks, they cannot withhold any money.
Each state is different. Some states don't allow garnishment for certain debts and others take a big chunk.
Now if you're talking federal loans or child support, that's a different story.

The limit is 25% of your income. You are allowed to have 75% of your take home pay. Even if you have multiple garnishments, they can only total 25%.
