Try the wallpaper section in your local paint store or Lowe's. Sometimes a sample of a border or wallpaper will contain a big enough flower or item to cut out and apply. If you find an item cut it out apply let it dry and cover with spray acrylic or other sealer. It can be a cheap way.

In the paint section of the craft store, look for Donna Dewberry rub-on decals....they are mostly floral designs but she also has bird and insect designs and her designs are not the stodgy kind that look like they belong in a Victorian parlor. She has an innocent,child-like quality to her work but are still appealing to adults and formal settings.

Consider doing decoupage. If you are not familiar with it, it is applying a picture or material to an object (e.g., furniture, flower pot, storage container) with glue and then coating. It's a more permanent method, and you can select any design you want to apply.
Try searching decoupage online for more details. You may want to check out the Plaid site, a manufacturer of various craft adhesives and paints. Have fun!
