...or simply living your lifestyle in a different fashion than we Christians (Muslims/Hindus/Jews/etc) do?

Tofu, do you know how to spell? Or is elightened a form of new age religion? In any case, I do not pretend to speak for other atheists, just myself. I believe that I do live my life differently than some religious folks. For example, I have never killed or hurt anyone because they believe differently than I do. I have never felt superior to anyone because they believe differently than I do. I have never tried to convert someone to my way of thinking. These are just a few of the "differences of my lifestyle." Why do you ask?

I wouldn't call it enlightened, but I feel very comfortable where I am spiritually and my lifestyle is no different that that of a christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or any other religious adherent. I have a family, I go to work, and I am thankful for my health and that of my loved ones. Just because I don't have religion in my life doesn't mean my lifestyle or ethics are any different.

I consider religions as social and political instruments no thing more than that so I am enlightened in some religions because I read between the lines and look at the critical reasons behind the doctrines not the divine side. I haven't gone to any temple or practice any faith for years (including animal sacrifices), other than that I live my life like every body else.

When I became an atheist I suppose I felt more enlightened. Like when I stopped believing in Santa. I feel I have a more accurate understanding of the world, now that I have stripped away childish stories. It might be less magical, but what matters is the truth.

E-lightened.... is that like E-mail??

Just kidding Tofu - where you beeen man! You are missed!!

I consider myself to be enlightened to real truths. Others would disagree. Thing is, we, as atheists, dont live life any differently than Christians or anyone else - we just THINK differently, and we dont expect everyone to think the same way....

It's not that we are enlightened. We (intellectual secularists) tend towards rational explanations and are open to new ideas when they are backed by evidence. To the things we do not know, and can not know, we can only speculate. We are "enlightened" in the sense that we don't try to answer the unanswerable and don't believe bold philisophical claims without good reason to believe them.

I really need to stop eating this pizza. It's making me feel fat...

I consider it a different lifestyle, we have a different way of thinking. For me it's all about discovering the truths, so to say.

I doubt if I do live my life significantly differently from people who believe in a God. What on earth do you think we atheists do all day? Sacrifice small animals to Satan while dancing round a campfire? I go to work, love my friends and family, read books, go on holiday, just live my life. I just do it without believing in religion.

Atheism is the lack of a belief in a god or gods. I don't feel particularly "enlightened" for NOT believing in such things anymore than I feel "enlightened" for NOT believing in unicorns or rainbow-striped snow goblins. I do, however, have my own opinions about people who believe in gods, unicorns, and/or rainbow-striped snow goblins, and it's pretty much the same opinion for all three.

I don't feel "enlightened" per se, but it's more like having a bird's-eye view of religions around the world. Being able to see them from the outside. Kind of like the matrix. When you are in a religion it's hard (sometimes impossible) to see past your own belief system because to you, that's reality. When you have no structured belief system around you you are able to examine others beliefs without burden. It Makes it easier to see the truth about certain religions.
