i think that if the child is 8 or over than they should definitely have a say in what parent they should live with. They have been around both parents long enough and are smart enough to know what they want. Many people won't agree with this, but i think it is right to give the child a choice.

:)

Yes depending on the age and situation. I think 12 is an old enough age for a child to make up their own mind. But on the same hand, take a look at the situation, if they are wanting to go live with dad (or vice versa) because he buys more stuff for them, then no. A childs decision should also not be coaxed.

Yes I think the child should have say in who they live with. Kids may feel more comfortable around 1 person then another or like one better and trust them more. Plus what if they get a step parent that they don't like and they're stuck with that person. And if they get stuck with a parent that is more abusive towards them but can provide for them better then they can't do anything about it. It is more fair toward the kids themselves on who they live with.

if the child is old enough to make his or her own decision then yes i do think that the child should decide who they want to live with. however if the other parent is not able to take care of the child then it should be up to the judge and the custodial parent. i grew up with my dad and step mom. there many times i wished i could've lived with my mom because my step mom and i didn't get along. my mom and i are the best of friends now that i am an adult. its hard growing up with a step parent because you feel as though he or she is invading your space, but trust me it will get better over time. i hope things work out for you, and i wish you all the best.

Hey that is my story to a tee. I am 28 now and everythign has worked out but I went through that.
My step father and I did not see eye to eye at all. When I woke up we were fighting until I went to bed. I ended up explaining my situation to my mom and she freaked!!!!
They had a custody battle and I ended up with my own lawyer. The lawyer fought for what I wanted because I had a reason. I explained to my mother the reasons why I wanted to leave and also why I did not want her to leave him. It was a long hard road but int he end we all survived.

Depends on how old you are... If you over the age of 14 then yes you do...You just have to tell the courts who you want to live with.

Personally yes i do, my parents are divorced and i wish i lived with my daddy ( i live with my ma). I only get to see him on week ends. But if my ma got remarried then i would wanna try to know this guy, see wat hes like and weather hes a jerk or not !
but any way yes unfortunatly kids have to live with who their parents get married to.

i agree, once a child hits about 14, they are old enough to be able to make a judgement call about what they think is best for themselves..
