You'd be surprised how many people get to know you, at least a little, through YA.
Lots of people on here find it interesting to research some of the questions and to help people out. Some people are on here for the fun questions and to have a little fun - nothing wrong with that. Many people seriously need an answer to their questions and have trouble finding the answer without help.
Personally, I usually answer serious questions, many of them in Education, which is my area of particular interest, but I also answer a few questions in other categories. I try to give good answers, and I don't ever give answers to mislead someone. For me this is an interesting site and it occupies my mind right now while my husband is ill and recovering from chemotherapy.
I believe there are now more than a million people using this site. So there are obviously all kinds of people on here for all kinds of reasons, and so there are all kinds of answers.
Enjoy your YA experience. It's a great site. Best of luck.

If I post an answer it's for one of these reasons:
1. I KNOW the answer and nobody else has answered the question.
2. I feel I have genuinely good advice to give.
3. The question asked my OPINION so I give it.
4. It's not a serious question, so I give an answer that will make someone laugh.
5. I'm not sure but I can be of SOME help so I give them what I know and TELL them I'm not sure.
6. I judge the question as not being the REAL question they are asking so I answer what I think they REALLY wanted to ask me.
7. They have not actually asked a question (or given me enough information to answer one) so I tell them that.
Probably more than you wanted to know. Sorry......

Whether an answer is made up or based on experience,
it depends on its contents, and on its successful application, whether it has validity to the Asker or to the other readers.
Some things I have noticed:
On math and English questions, some people give the wrong answer and do not go back and correct themselves. Of course, it is left to the Asker to make sure answers are right; but I would rather people correct or delete misinformation to reduce the chances of teaching facts incorrectly to any person.
On some questions I answered, I received Best Answer by the asker, but have baffled other people who do not care for what I wrote. So the meaning and purpose depends on the Askers whether the answer speaks to them or helps them or not.
I do not have a degree in religion or political science or law, but have studied these issues on my own, enough to make sense to people who asked about these topics.
I can only speak for myself, and for my own observations.
I generally focus on questions/answers with substance I find meaningful, and do not mind other writers expressing their own thoughts or experiences to whatever degree they are sharing.

To tell you the truth. Half of the stuff I've answered is from experience. I wouldn't give someone bad advice. If I been in that situation I would give them my point of view on it because I know what to do or how to solve the problem.

I answer questions that I know the answer to, or at least have some knowledge in. No point in being unhelpful, is there?

If I don't know it and I am interested I look it up. If I can't find it, I don't answer.
