I was reading some Q & A's about african american hair care for my bi-racial daughter and I keep seeing the word "plaits". Is this some form of braiding?

I believe they are flat braids, but may just be another name for braids.

Yes, braids. My grandmother used to call braids plaits, pronouced it 'platts'. She was southern.

Look it up in the Dictionary. (I'd do it for you but if I do my Yahoo page will go away). Or just put the word in your search browser and see what you come up with.
