1 week is the standard. It's just to make sure you are no longer taking pain meds and also that your blood sugar levels are stable.

In the paperwork the hospital sent home with me and my newborn 2 weeks ago was a bunch of discharge instructions from the hospital. In these instructions it says not to drive for 2 weeks. I was still a little loopy on medications and from no sleep when I left that I thought they had told me 3 days. So when I called the maternity ward a few days later to clarify things, they said that the amount of time was really up to the doctor. It depended on how much blood I had lost during delivery, if I tore or got cut, how bad it was, and how well I was reacting to any prescription pain killers they had prescribed. So I couldn't get a good answer out of them. I went to go vote and went to 2 pediatrician appointments after a week - week and a half. Daddy was at work, it was short distances, and I felt good...but I have been trying to stay put as much as possible these past 2 weeks. Good luck!

I just heard the no driving thing after a ceasarian. I drove a couple days after (I had an episiotomy with both kids) to take the baby to appts; take bigger brother to daycare; etc. In fact I went and ate at a restuarant on the way home from the hospital!!! We got a lot of weird looks from people asking how old Kyle was and we informed in he hasn't even been home yet!!! I think that it depends on the dr and your comfort level.

You can drive home if you want, once you are on nothing that makes you drowsy. It's only after a c section that you need to be careful for a few days. Drive on baby!

I would pretend like the doctor told me I couldn't drive so that I could be pampered just a little while longer. (who wants to be looking for parking after they gave birth I'm not, even at 3months pregnant I'm going to make sure I'm pampered after birth...lol

It varies person to person. My doctor said it was okay to drive. If you don't feel pain and is not on medication that causes drowsiness, then it's okay to drive.
