If you're hair is as thick like you say it is, and you relax it that often, then you should use Olive Oil perms super, and BioSilk shampoo and conditioner when washing it every other week. Olive Oil perms are gentle, they will straighten your hair, but it won't damage it like most perms will. BioSilk products will make your hair very managable and soft with lots of body. BioSilk is available at stores in malls in stores like Trade Secret or ask for it at the hair salons in your local mall where other fine hair products are sold. It may cost a lot, but it works well!

ONe thing you should know African American hair is fragile-no matter how thick or thin it is. You need to ask yourself: what kind of relaxer are you using? and what strength? super? regular? sensitive scalp? Also, are you doing the home relaxers yourself?
Because I have to tell ya, a hair dresser will do a much better job. Because she will blow dry it, and most times she will flat iron it. Which makes it straighter...and it depends on the hair products. What kind are you using? Anything a hair dresser will use, is 100% better than anything you or I could buy off the shelf. Also, maybe you should try "touching up" your hair every 3 weeks or so. Because it sounds like relaxing your hair every 6 weeks may not be a good idea. A touch up is just for the edges, and a full head relaxer is for the whole head. Make sense? Buy yourself a good flat iron. By "good" I mean, expensive. And try to get a ceramic one...because it's better for your hair. The same goes for a curling iron-ceramic is the best.
What you could do, is go to a hair dresser and have a hair consult. She may be able to give you good tips for your hair.
Oh yeah, washing it every 2-3 days is not a good idea. Once a week is probably more than enough. Whatever type of shampoo you use, it should be the same product line as the relaxer.

Just get a good flat iron. Washing your hair every two weeks is the thing to do for African Americans cause we cannot wash our hair that often, so stay with the two weeks. Any kind of heat is damaging to your hair but that is the only thing to really straight our hair. Is hard to manage and a lot of up-keep so if you don't feel like doing any of what anyone told you, then, I would suggest getting braids again or getting cornrows cause they are cheaper. good luck.

well I hope this helps but first african-american CANNOT wash their hair every 2-3 days, maybe 1-2 weeks but our hair is not like white people, first of all DONT blow your hair always cause it dries out ur hair and ur hair will start to get brittle instead when u wash it, wrap ur hair into circular motions and then wrap ur hair with a do rag and instead of blow drying one day just let ur hair air dry. then put ur grease but dont put ALOT unless u have naturally dry hair comb and brush your hair and if you have a straightning iron then straighten ur hair but brush ur hair every night before you go to sleep, so at least it's straight and when you wake up brush your hair, and when you use a brush use a brush that "white girls use" it really works better than another brush and yes I am an african american and my hair is healthy because of it, or you can just go to a hairdresser once, get your hair done, get tips from you hairdresser or watch what she does and you will be straight but I hope this helps.

I can to extent feel your pain but am unsure if its as thick as yours. Instead of blow drying it the only other thing I can suggest is letting it hair dry and using a flat iron to straighten or if you dont already have one get one of those hooded dryers and roller set your own hair. Unfortunately washing and drying your hair even once a week drys your hair out especially close to touch up time..Hope this helps
