No it is NOT a necessity -- but quite a few weddings do have videos of the event.

IF cost is a reason for this question -- do you know of a friend or invitee who is one of those amateurs that like to take videos? IF so -- usually a person like that will be more than happy to make a video of the event for you for free.

No, absolutely not. The only things NECESSARY to a wedding are (1) a bride (2) a groom (3) a member of clergy, a government functionary, or some other entity to speak the words.

It isn't necessary, but you'll probably kick yourself later if you don't get one...if offers so many different perspectives to your wedding that still photography just can't capture. It is a great idea, if you have the money for it...if not, try to set aside extra funding for a video and make it happen (i.e. if you have 1,200 budgeted for your dress and you found one for 700...use the extra 500 towards a videographer).

It's only "necessary" to have a license, and a licensed officator. Perhaps a witness, in some states.

Everything else is only what the particpants want. It isn't "necessary," for instance to have ANY wedding photographs, best man or brides maid, veil, wedding kiss, vows, reception or any of the other trappings of typical weddings.

I did not have a video and I have not regretted it. I did attend a wedding where I later recieved a copy of the dvd. The couple spent a lot of money having it made and having 300 copies mailed out. I think the money could have been spent better elsewhere

No. I didn't even bother with a professional photographer. I had a family friend who dabbles in photography snap some great candid pics at the ceremony and had some portraits taken at glamor shots after the fact. Nothing is necessary except the marriage license. It is totally up to you.

Of course its not necessary but its cool to look back at the actual wedding events as they unfolded once in a while. My ex baastard hubby fell out TWICE during outr wedding and I still look at it and laugh and think about sending it in to funny videos show. If i was smart enough I would have taken his collapses of a sign of our wedded life......ha ha ha

no, we are gonna have somebody do the ceremony with a normal camcorder just to have something, but as far as hiring someone. not gonna happen, we priced around, and folks wanted 2 times as much to video as the photographer was chargin, and we will get way more in the way of pics! I think thats definetly one of the corners you can cut if you are looking to do so.

definitely need one, most of your day is a whirlwind, so much going on. also a good reason is to see the others at the wedding. another idea is to video not just the ceremony but the party at night too, lets you see the guests and yourself enjoying it.

No, it is not necessary to even have pictures...but will u cherish them laterr.

If the question is financial...why pay a fortune for a video when you can buy a cheaper camera and have a friend do it from the seat candidly. Or two or three.
