You save up for how ever long it takes to purchase a computer and go up to the person you want to ask, saying, "I was going to ask you to be a co-signer for buying a computer, but then I became financially responsible, did not spend beyond my means and bought the computer with money that I saved. So now I don't have to."

Try it, its easy - you'll appreciate the computer a whole lot more.

That's a tough one. I, personally, will never co-sign for someone outside the immediate family. That's just drama waiting to happen. But if you're a good guy and you have a pretty good track record concerning $, be up front and honest and say pretty please a lot and take them to dinner. But if you need a co-signer you either have no credit or bad credit? Hmmm....Good luck!

Most people won't even co-sign for family members! It is a BAD idea to ask someone outside your family.

You don't. Save your money and buy it for cash. In the meantime go to your public library and use that one.
