They want points. If they answer all the questions they can, they still get the points, even if the answer is stupid or unrelated to the question.

Because they're stupid and trying to get points. But what they didn't figure out is that you don't get that many points from giving stupid answers, you need to give good ones so it's picked as best. Anyway, they just need to figure out it's a waste of time. And it's not like you get anything for the points anyway.
