As a recent convert to Islam, I am a bit apprehensive on wearing the Hajib. I guess its because the Hajib is like the final step announcing to the world "Hello I'm Muslim" and I'm scared on how I will be treated by my friends and coworkers. Is this silly? What should I do?

Asalam Alaikum my dear sister in Islam
First I would like to congratulate you on coming to Islam. It am truly happy for you.

Second sis you must remember that the hijab is obligatory. You have to wear it no matter what people think. Your duty to God comes first.

One thing that will help you is to remember what the Prophet(peace be upon him) and his companions(may Allah be pleased with them) went though when they took Islam. They did not back down and did what God commanded them to do no matter what and some paid so much for it.

Your friends and coworkers will be a little taken back at first but inshaAllah(God willing) they will get used to it. And if they don't then that is their problem. Your doing what is right and they just don't like it. And if you get any slack over it remember it is Islam they hate not you personally.

Stand strong sister and do what is right. And no sister you are not silly. Your striving to do what God tells you to do and that is the mark of a pious person.

If you need anything sis email me. I can also give you some really nice all sister sites so you can meet sisters from all around the world, some just like yourself.

May Allah continue to guide you and make this transition easy for you. Ameen

Muslim women are ordered to wear hijab, but... I don't "think" it's that big deal compared to other things. There's even no penalty in Islam for not wearing hijab, which means it's not like other things we are required to do, or other thing we are required not to do.

Try to wear it, it's kind of jihad you know. But if you feel you cannot, give yourself some time and concentrate on more important things in Islam.

However, this is my personal opinion & I'm sure many people do not share same views.

Congratulations on conversion :)

if your not black or brown then you shouldn't even join islam because there is too much racial tension being ignored everywhere for a white person to become an islam instead of a freedom fighter,,

if people can really get answers to their problums no one should act like the have a problem of their own whoever started this website shouldve fixed racism but instead said he was too busy, and then acts like thats all he thinks about,

i mean if he can profit off other people with problems like that

they think if they cant fix war they cant remember to fix racism,

so if you are brown or black they'll have to ask yuo did you join islam and it give you time to speak about what you want to and then you and your friends would have something in common

just know that for anyone who thinks it is strange ... there are many who think it is beautiful
but you must do what is right for you and you only
and be strong enough if you do decide to wear it
you never know they might think it is pretty like i do

It is not silly for you to realize that people are ignorant and continue to spread hate and lies, and that you might (or most likely WILL) endure ridicule for your beleifs... Thats actually quite intelligent of you to consider that.

The silly part was converting to Islam. Sorry - just an opinion... Doesnt it teach that one day ALL will bow to Allah or be killed as infidels? Are you prepared to kill your friends and family that dont follow your lead?
