Over the past two weeks, I have pain when I floss between my back lower right tooth and my gold crown right next to it. Now today, all of a sudden, that back tooth is aching pretty bad with pain twinges in the jaw and ibuprofen is not helping.
(All four wisdom teeth were removed three or four years ago.)
Does it sound like my tooth is dying from the inside? This is the type of pain I had before I had to have a root canal on a tooth on the other side of my mouth two years ago.

It sounds like you need to see a dentist. You may have developed an infection that will need to be treated with antibiotics before the dentist can do any work on whatever the problem is.

if you could locate which tooth is painful it could be cause by : Death of pulp, or necrosis of pulp, so you need root canal therapy (x-ray 1st), it is implemented by sudden pain even if you dont eat or drink hot/cold food or when you're sleeping, if you could not locate w/c exactly the painful part is, it cud be caused by : -Gum/periodontal (structure in mouth other than teeth) problems.. -maybe you have plaque (left food) or calculus (hardened plaque) that stuck inside the gum, it causes pain. -the treatment is only to have your teeth cleaned by the dentist if you're not sure which tooth are hurt and you feel your gum is painful, it's probably a gum/periodontal problems you should really go to the dentist to fix the problem, for this time you could take pain killer, like mefenamic acid, aspirin, or paracetamol 500 mg, as needed
