Nov. 15 (Bloomberg) -- US Airways Group Inc. made an unsolicited $8.67 billion offer for bankrupt Delta Air Lines Inc. that would create the world's largest carrier.

Delta's creditors would get $4 billion in cash and $4.67 billion in stock of US Airways, formed 14 months ago as it exited bankruptcy through a merger with America West Holdings Corp. Delta Chief Executive Officer Gerald Grinstein said today he would review the offer after the airline disclosed he rejected an overture last month.

US Airways Group Inc. proposed an $8 billion takeover of bankrupt Delta Air Lines Inc. on Wednesday after an attempt at merger talks failed earlier this fall.

The combined company would have the most flights across the Atlantic Ocean of any U.S. carrier and rank No. 2 in flights to and from the Caribbean, US Airways said. It could also lead to more airline mergers and prompt other offers for Delta.

US airways has put an offer for Delta and them to merge but Delta doesnt want to. They want to come out of bankruptcy an independent airline compnay... but we'll see.

Delta, I have never used US Air before but I have used Delta before as they are part of my WorldsPerk network, they weren't all that impressive.
