For homemade:
3 parts finely diced onions to 1 part each finely diced carrot and celery. (example, 1 cup onions to 1/3 cup each carrot and celery)
Lightly salt.
Simmer in 3-4 tablespoons olive oil till onions are transluscent.
Add finely diced tomatoes ( about 2 times the volume of the onion/celery/carrot mixture - if mixture made about 2 cups, add about 4 cups tomato).
Simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes - stir often.
Add 1 cup of white wine.
Simmer for another 30 minutes. alcohol will cook out.
Brown and drain 1 pound of low fat hamburger meat.
Add meat to sauce.
Add 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano.
Salt and pepper to taste.

The best just plain old spaghetti sauce is Hunts brand. It is a little over a dollar a can and tastes great. The other brand of spaghetti sauce that I like is Paul Newmans but it has some chunky stuff in it. I don't like Prego either.

Barilla Marinara is a good basic sauce but why don't you make your own marinara .. It only takes 20 minutes ...

1 can of chopped tomatoes
3 cloves of garlic smashed
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of oregano
Salt and pepper to taste

Heat oil in a pan. Add garlic. When it begins to brown lightly (but not burn) add the tomatoes, then oregano and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for 20 minutes. You can add anything to the oil before you put the tomatoes in if you want (onions, mushroom, ground meat) and you can also add any fresh herbs. Fresh basil or parsley are great.

Pesto sauce.
Fresh basil. garlic. olive oil, walnuts, parmiggiano, pepper. Throw them all in the blender and stir the sauce with the spaggheti. It's as green as it can get but tastes gooooood! And it's very, very healthy. Also try replacing the basil with parsley.
