Laminate looks naff, is dated and doesn't wear well. Avoid it.
You have two options involving real wood - engineered wood flooring or solid wood flooring. Engineered wood flooring is similar to laminate, but the top layer is real wood rather than fake. I don't think I need to explain solid wood flooring.

The best real wooden floor I had was from a salvage dealer where i bought six sacks of parquet flooring that came out of a church that was demolished. It was solid oak, and after it was laid, i sanded it with a machine and it came up like brand new.

Look up Lumber Liquidators. They have warehouses all over the US......hope you're in the US. They advertise quite a bit on HGTV. I've been to one of their places. The store has samples of all the flooring from the usual stuff to the more exotic flooring.

I would go to the local lumber company and get it there and treat and stain it yourself. That way you have your own added touch. You can visit Home Depot or Lowe's and take a free class on "How To Do".

We recently took the ugly lino out of our kitchen and put in laminate from Ikea. It looks great! Very reasonable..

Blanchard is right...Laminate. fake wood is easier. Called floating floor.
