My neighbors have 3 dogs and their dogs are trying to harrass my cats. They are 2 Jack Russell Terriers and one Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen, all show dogs. They call and complain that MY cats are leaving scratches on their dogs. MY cats stay in the yard, we have a fence! THEIR dogs dug a hole under our fence and run around our yard, chasing and harrassing them. They're threatening to SUE us! We have nets that extend above the trees to keep the cats in, so there's no way in hell our cats are getting out! I count them daily during feeding time, they're all there! I have to constantly fill in the hole they dig to our yard and I'm SICK of it! They're going to sue US for their dogs injuries when we're doing what we're supposed to do! How do I keep the dogs out of our yard and what can I do about our rediculous neighbors?

My cats are fixed and up to date and abandoned and abused from previous owners. I have legality for these cats, I was granted permission from the state and had people inspect my home to make sure I was taking good care of them. As for being a COLLECTOR, never in my life. Collectors are SICK and deserve to be incarcerated. I just take in and keep the cats who come to me. If anyone wanted to adopt them, I would have to check their house to make sure it was compatable. I am a certified no kill shelter at this point, so please don't come to any harsh conclusions. I thank you.

Wow people are so judgmental on here! I say good for you for taking the cats in and not leaving them to be put in a pound or in a bad home! It sounds like since you obviously are licensed and whatnot and have perfectly legal rights to have the amount of cats that you have that the neighbors really won't be able to do anything about it. I would take pictures of the holes dug underneath the fence and the next time your neighbors say anything about filing a law suit show them a picture and tell them that you are going to file a counter suit because their dogs are probably doing more harm to your cats than your cats are doing to your dogs. My parents have a Jack Russel and they can be very aggresive towards cats, he's pinned their cats down and tried getting them before not to mention they're very fast dogs and can jump very high making it more difficult for your cats to make an escape. I would also let them know that in the counter suit you'll be making a claim that they need to fix the damage done to your property (the holes). I would also have a landscaper come out and give you an estimate on how much it would cost to fix the damage, along with possibly putting in a different fence, maybe one that goes a few inches underground and then give the estimate to the neighbors for them to fix. This is their problem not yours it's amazing how sue happy people are these days, everyone's looking for a free buck you can't let their dogs or them get away with this sort of behavior.

No problem but first, why do you have 42 cats?
OK, go to Costco, get a video camera with multiple viewers.
Set them where the neighbor can't see them, then just wait.
WHEN you are sent to court, they will as you, "Why do you have 42 cats?" I don't know if you need a license for that many where you are but if you go to court, you better be up to date and current on shots and knowledgeable about what your city requires for that many cats.
Whip out the video and make the neighbor whimper,wait..............
OK, find a contractor who will tell you how much it will be to fix your fence.
Next, take one of your stressed felines to the vet and tell him what has been happening and tell him how many felines it has affected.
Next, make sure the vet documents everything, take home a copy.
If you have a cattery where you breed them, if they are aborting kittens due to immanent peril and or stress, bring your cat into the vet and document it, taking a copy home.
Figure an amount for lost litters.
NOW>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Present a counterclaim for your fence, loss of kittens, stress to your felines, make sure the neighbor is current on all THEIR stuff, whip out the video and present records from vet and anyone else who might be helpful.
What kid of cats do you have?
They are obviously not the type that eat dogs.
I love dogs but how can they resist, it isn't the dogs who are doing what nature tellls them, it is their owners. You can always fill the holes with water laced with cayenne pepper, dogs don't like pepper!

I don't have an answer for you and I too would wonder if the authorities might come down on you for having so many cats without some kind of licensing.

I have a nice neighbor who is a Muslim and would never hurt any of my cats. Like you I use the cat fence-in and my cats cannot leave my back yard. When I told him I have a new cat he asked "Will it be an outdoor cat?". Even after five years he still thinks my cats come into his backyard and I know they never have!

Wow, um, well, I guess you could take pictures of your yard to prove that you have taken precautions against your pets getting out. At least that way if it does go to court you'll have some proof.

Maybe try to get some video of their dogs digging the hole?

Can you be really sure your cats can't get out any other way? It's amazing the tiny cracks that cats can fit through.

In my city there are no ordinances regarding cats being lose. Therefor if I let my cat out there are no laws about where she is and isn't allowed to be.

Also be sure that you have the proper licensing to house 42 cats (if that's required in your area).

Yikes! Good luck!

First you should document the holes the dogs have dug to get into your back yard, maybe with video or camara. Secondly explain to the neighbor that their dogs are tresspassing on your property and make them understand that they can be held responsible for any damage the dogs make to your property.

tell them you are going to sue them for there uncontrolable animals ruining your landscape. then they might shutup. they are harassing your property and they are letting there crazy animals into your yard! cats, will be cats, if they scratch the dog,the dog will live. plus, you can always say that if the dogs weren't in your yard in the first place they might not have scratches on their dogs. any way, next time there dog is running in your yard, take their dog by a leash and take it straight to animal control. no dog should be digging up other peoples property.

I would call the local police and report them....dogs are supposed to be kept in pens or on a leash. Good luck!!

42 cats, they have a valid complaint there. If you live in a suburban area, I'd check the ordinance because many places have rules about how many animals you can have.

If you lived next door to me, I would be complaining to Animal Control. That is way over the limit (unless you live in the boonies)
You need to see what the limit on cats is for your area.
Good luck

i think that in order for you to have 42 cats you should not be on the computer but should be selling them. or at least some! you should have at last 2 acres of land in the middle of nowhere for a crazy thing like that!!!
