Go to your school's financial aid office. They will have you fill out a FAFSA form which tells the govt about your finances. After it gets processed in DC you will get something in the mail saying they processed it then you find a lender with help of the school financial counselor and apply. Its not hard at all.

If you are talking about student loans for college/university, each school has an office to guide you (and guide the money to the school)
Its worth the effort to visit them , because they are a good source for information on grants too
If you are talking elementary and secondary school, I have no idea

it depends on what school you are going to attend.

once you are accepted, they set you up with financial aid counselers. they will tell you everything you need to know.

if you already met with them and just forgot the website, call them up. different schools use different lenders.
