well, his religion doesn't allow dating, and they only are allowed to marry people in the church...but still, you can't help but feel if he liked yoyu back that he'd say to hell with the church

No. Just be happy that he didn't say yes and then treated you badly because you were not what he really wanted. Rejection is part of life. It's not always based on looks. And anyone who does base relationships on looks is S-H-A-L-L-O-W!
