If you are breastfeeding, it could take a year. Otherwise, it's usually around 6-8 weeks. You should have a 6 week follow up Dr. appt. for yourself, from the time of your baby's birth. Make sure that your blood is back up to a healthy level and that your body is in good shape for another pregnancy before you get pregnant again. If you had a C-Section, pregnancy is not recommended until you're baby is at least 6 months old. Good luck!

If the reason you're asking this question is because you want to keep having sex and not having children then the only way you can do that is to use protection, just because your period doesn't come back yet doesn't mean that you can't get pregnant again. We've been using condoms since I gave birth in May since I am nursing and can't take birth control. As for an answer to your question I'm not too sure when your period comes back, I always heard that you don't have a period until after you're done breastfeeding (i could be wrong) mine still hasn't come back and like I said I had my son in May. I'm enjoying not having it, I wish it wouldn't come back at all!

Are you nursing?

I nursed each of my kids for more than a year.

My oldest was born in late June, 2003, and I didn't get a period until at least Christmas, if not after?

My youngest was born in early July, 2005, and I didn't get a period until the end of May, 2006. And that one lasted 4 weeks!

Everyone's different.

(I bled off and on for the first six weeks after each birth. And then I went on minipills so I could keep nursing and have sex but not worry about getting pregnant.)

Are you breastfeeding? Some moms don't get a period the whole time they are nursing!

My periods came back at 10 mos, 9.5 mos and 16 mos postpartum. I was still nursing each of them when my period returned.

You CAN take birth control while breastfeeding. See the link -

My cycle came back exactly one month after our little guy was born. It took about a year though for it to balance out and get back to normal.
