+Two men are walking in a place where nothing can possibly ever appear. Suddenly one of the men trips and falls to the ground while the other man starts hopping on one foot.+

The man tripped the other man and hurt his foot.... That has to be it, right?

Given that nothing can ever appear, there are two cases to consider.
Case 1: (nothing is present, other than the men)
The tripper has tripped either over himself or the other man and falls to the ground. The hopper has stumbled over the tripper, now that he's down, and injured his foot ... causing him to hop.
Case 2: (something is already present, so it doesn't have to "appear")
The tripper has tripped over some object - which may or may not be the second man. In doing so, he falls to the ground. The hopper has stepped on something already on the ground (not the other man), injuring his foot and causing him to hop. Alternatively, he could injure his foot on the fallen man, and therefore hop in pain.

The man that fell tripped over the other man's foot and hurt the man that was hopping on one foot's foot. So he hopped on one foot.

Nothing can possibly appear? Need more info. You mean nothing can be there? It's outer space, and they're both dead.
Nothing new can appear? Then one of them missed the cinderblock that was already there.
Nothing at all can be there? Then they aren't there either.
Or you can go with what everybody else said, that they tripped over each other.
