We are moving in a couple of weeks and I want to hire a professional mover because I have a large china cabinet that I am worried about being broken during the move, my boyfriend is upset that I don't trust him to move it without breaking it. The main reason I am worried is because we are moving to an upstairs condo, so it has to be carried up the stairs. I am not worried about anything but that, but I know if he breaks it, I will never forgive him because I will have been right and should have hired professionals. What should I do? Should I go with my gut or trust him and hope for the best?

Not ever forgiving him is a little extreme, isn't it? He is not doing this because it is fun. Obviously he is doing it for you or to save moving costs or both. Have a little faith in him and appreciate what he is willing to do. This is a material possession and your relationship should mean a whole lot more than that.

Tell him you don't want him to get hurt or fall with it. Tell him if he hurts his back it could really put him out of commission in all areas of his "fun" life as well as work.
He may see it as you questioning his manliness. This may give him an out without hurting his pride.
You want to hire movers so that there will not be any new friction if it does get broken.

Any of these should work, and are most likely true too.

Instead of saying "I will never forgive him if...", try speaking kindly to him and saying "I know it would kill you if something happened to that cabinet and you would never forgive yourself. So let's leave it to the experts and you not have that on your back."

One other thing, if a large china cabinet, short of being a treasured heirloom, is more important than your boyfriend, is it possible you have some priorities turned around? Sorry...would ask my daughter the same thing.

take your gut cuz if he drops the stuff then not only will you feel really bad about it breaking but also will he, that is if he really cares about you and you will not be able to forgive him, tell that too him and that you are gonna get a professional so theres no risk and if it does break with a professional you can sue that professional.

Tell him exactly why you are worried about the cabinet. Also pay for the movers yourself. don't expect him to pay for something he thinks he can do himself. It's alot easier to put up with a bit of griping over it, than it is to "never forgive him".

Go with your gut feeling, the professional movers have insurance in the event they break/damage your furniture!!!! Your Honey as capable as he may be, doesn't have insurance covering the damages that could arise.

If he cares anything about you - he will allow you to make your own decisions and he should not be hurt about the decision you make. Hire to have the china cabinet moved.

I would tell him you want to hire movers due to the fact that your property is protected and if something is broken then they will have to pay for it

Just go with your gut and tell him that you don't want him to hurt his back because you will be needing him for other activities later on in the evening.
