I think that the reason so much of scripture is being routinely ignored is because the church is up to their ears in doctrines that are not Biblical at all. I believe at least the top 5, if not the top 10 doctrines being talked about most in churches are not even in the Bible.
Worship - Do you realize there is no such a thing as a worship service in in the Bible, but churches are obsessed with that.
Spiritual gifts. Do you know that the phrase spiritual gift does not occur anywhere in the Bible, in every case it has been inserted by translators
Ministry of music - In all the lists of ministries where do you ever find a ministry of music.
This list goes on, but if we spend all out time teaching and learning things that are not in the Bible it means things that are in the Bible will be negelected.

Preachers have a tendency to preach what pleases their congregations, rather than what pleases the Lord. There are exception in the pulpit, but not many these days. The days of John Wesley and C. S. Spurgeon are long gone I'm afraid. It is getting harder and harder for men such as myself to preach an honest sermon because honest sermons offend people. The pulpit is not a place to stump for votes or money or brandish a resume or rant and rave for hours on end about personal testimonies that no one want to hear. It is a place to teach and preach the Bible and to deal with the tough issues. This is why I like prison ministry----I don't have to tell 150 convicted felons that they have sinned because the white uniforms and the barbed wire and electrified fences tell them everyday that they have made mistakes. They want solution, not bashing. The Bible gives those solution, but few preacher these days are willing to explore the scriptures and extract those solution. I spend a great deal of time on YA because it is important to get the gospel out and to address erroneous beliefs----people's eternal futures are at stake. God bless you.

I believe that there are many Scriptures that are hidden from some people at certain times. I know, for myself, that I will be surprised just about every time I read the Bible by finding something in it that I never noticed before. Almost like the verse was hidden somehow. Very strange.

Hi icheeknow,
i am a youth/college pastor. My findings have been that some of the most wonderful bible studies we have had is studying the Bible verse-by-verse. The thing with that though is that it takes quite awhile to complete even a short book- i think our college group took almost 6 months to go through Colossians.
In terms of teaching-- i think there are some books that are hard to understand without learning other books (ie: revelation). i gave my college kids a quick two week lesson on end times theology but to go over Revelation verse by verse would take years...
i have noticed perhaps that minor prophets tend to be ignored as well...
i think you bring up a very valid point. There are churches that like topicals- where they can just talk about things that pertian to them... but God's word contains parts that are uncomfortable for us sometimes and we must learn as much as we can in the time we are here...
Anyhow that's my two cents... feel free to email me just to chat... i enjoy your train of thought...
kindly,
Nickster

The Bible contains 42 scriptures relating to the character BENAIAH who did exist and is part of early Jewish history.
That same Jewish history was rendered useless when the Roman army destroyed the Jewish records in Jerusalem in 70 C.E. What this person did is now only of historical interest. But it seems a lot of Bible space devoted to a single person. And the references to him are rarely used.

Just wanted to say that I appreciate your thought provoking question.
I am fortunate to be in with a group of people who actively participate in bible study. And are open to correction by His Word.
In my family though I have members who are more selective.
The main one that seems to be overlooked is:
"faith without works is useless" James 2:20b
I hear things like "I believe I am just not following right now". This is so sad because also in James we see;
"You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder" James 2:19
I feel that this is a reflection on the large percent of Americans who would check the "Christian" box off on a form asking to state their religion.
Believing and following are two different things.
I hope your question is helpful to convict folks who are not living out their faith to listen to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and put their faith into action.

Many Catholics examine and study the Bible on a universal foundation. oftentimes a parish has a bible study once per week for its individuals. All practising Catholics listen the Bible per week at Mass. The readings are: a passage from the former testomony, a responsorial Psalm, a range from the recent testomony, and ultimately, a element of the recent testomony. And for those of you who declare that Catholics worship "idles" (sic), you want to verify your own Bibles a lot extra. you want to cite Scripture, yet really the area that you want. for example, you've of course neglected this area of the ten Commandments: Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not undergo pretend witness hostile to thy neighbour. Or how about: Proverbs 19:5 A pretend witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not damage out. Catholics worship God and Him on my own. we've informed you this persistently, yet you nonetheless undergo pretend witness hostile on your brothers and sisters in Christ. next time, remember Proverbs earlier you deliberately lie about us.

I am seeing how Christ's sufficiency is being undermined. Christ defeated spiritual death. By His stripes we are free of the bondage death had over us. Christ paid for all our sins. It is not deed's but through Christ that we can be forgiven.
I know many people who say to divorce and remarry is a sin and they would never do that because what if that is THE sin that ruins their chance of heaven. Christ paid for our sins, not just the sin people chose to have paid for but all sin.
Another example is those who keep the feasts from the old testament. I do not know about every feast keeper, but I know a few and they keep the feasts because they believe if they don't they wont get to heaven because to them it is part what they need to do to get to heaven along with giving themselves to Jesus. Do they really think Jesus is not able to save us on His own??

Yes, like spare the rod, spoil the child. That is why there are so many unruly kids out there today. I see 3 and 4 year old kids running all over their parents and the parents just let them do it instead of warming up their backsides.
