We are an American Military Family moving to the UK this coming April. This isn't our first time living in the UK so I understand the differences in Language, Foods, Driving, Housing, Culture etc but we lived in an area coined "Little America" and therefore had many of the "comforts of home" easily accessible to us on a regular basis. We are now returning to the UK to the South Western portion of the country and would like to know what to expect. Are Americans, specifically military families well accepted in this area? I have found quite a bit of negative comments both on here and on some different yahoo groups that have me a bit on edge, bringing back memories of some of the truly heartless protesters that would come to the doors of women whose husbands were in Afghanistan when we lived there before. I love England, loved living there and am excited to return but would love some honest feedback on what we are going to find on our "return".

The bases are in Welford and Fairford, we will probably move to either the Swindon, Reading, or Abingdon areas. I am trying to find something central to all the "American" things but yet far enough away to really feel like I am living in Britain.

It depends on what region of the States you are talking about, we're all so different, but I think support of Military Members and there families is universal, the split is on support of the war, and the leaders, such as bush.

I wouldn't worry about anything...except for understanding the accents. The South West of England is usually full of tourists, so it's doubtful you will have any problems...

Which part of the South West are you going to? I'm from Bath but now live in West Yorkshire.
