My puppy first went into heat at about 6 1/2 months, than again at 10 1/2 months. Aren't they supposed to go intoheat every 6 months? Is something wrong with her? Will she continue this cycle of every four months or is it just because she is still a pup, and hasn't got into a regular cycle yet?

It is just that puppy. Nothing is wrong with her. She just has quick cycles. If you breed her though get familiar with how long she should carry Even though her cycle is quick she should carry almost to a full term. If there are problems with the first time she litters then look into having her fixed Be prpared for an early delivery even though we hope not. In the years of breeding we kept track of all the cycles of all females and every time a male breed. Some dogs just vary some like women folk do.

Some dogs do go into heat every 4 months so nothing is wrong with her,I had a female that did and the vet said it was normal. The vet also said as she matured that it could change. If it is bothersome and you are not a professional breeder you should consider spaying her this way you will not have to deal with the messy heat cycle.
this is from the book Dog Owners Home Veterinary Handbook, the heat period usually comes every six to eight months. However some bitches go into heat every four months and others only once a year. Several factors, such as time of year, hereditary tendencies and emotional states, have a bearing.

My friend had this same thing happen...Her vet said that dogs cycle every 4-8 months with most dogs averaging every 6 months. She may be of the small percent that cycles every 4 months. Hope this helps

Just get her spayed. That will stop the heat cycles and you won't have to worry about it. Your vet can give her a complete exam and determine if she is healthy. Bottom line...do your dog a favor, increase her life, avoid female problems and unwanted puppies....SPAY/NEUTER ASAP

Some dogs come into "heat" more often than others. Spaying your pet would be the best thing to do.

If you are concerned about it, take her to the vet and get her spayed. Problem solved and a happier dog and owner.
