I bought a 16 1/2 pound turkey. The cookbook says to cook the turkey for 20 minutes per pound if
it is unstuffed and 25 minutes per pound if the turkey is stuffed. I plan on having a stuffed
turkey.
If I want to eat at 1:00 p.m., what time should I put the turkey in? Oh, yes, the cookbook says
to let the turkey stand for 10 minutes after coming out of the oven.

If the turkey is 16.5 lbs, and you have to cook it at 25 minutes per pound, then that would mean you need to cook it for almost 7 hours. So i would put it in the oven between 5:30 and 5:45 am covered in tin foil, take the tin foil off around 11:45, and take the turkey out of the oven between 12:30 and 12:45, then let it rest covered in tinfoil until 1.

When we normally cook our turkey it takes about 3- 4 hours so start early if you want to eat at 1. The cookbook is right let it sit for a couple of minutes unless you like it super hot. For stuffing I suggest putting celery ( the best) yum, yum. You should cook your mashed potatoes a couple minutes before taking your turkey out so your turkey and mashed potatoes will be out and ready to serve at the same time. Have Fun!!

A 16.5 pound turkey cooked in a 325F onen will take 3.5 hours. This is for a completly thawed unstuffed turkey A stuffed turkey will take an additional hour. You will end up with a much moister turkey (and happier guests) if you cook the turkey and stuffing seperatly. Because the extra time it takes to get the stuffing inside the bird up to the proper temperature drys out the bird especially the breast

Start cooking the turkey in a 400 degree oven to crisp up the skin. Then turn the heat down to 325 or so. You'll know the turkey is done when the thickest part (preferably the area around a bone) reaches 165 degrees internal temperature. That's the temperature that you're supposed to cook poultry to to kill off all the bacteria.

According to Butterball, you need to cook for 3 3/4 to 4 1/2 hours, stuffed. They say you should let it sit for 30 minutes after taking out of the oven. The best way to be sure your bird is done is to take the temperature with a meat thermometer.
