I bought my cat (hes about 4 years old) some mice toys so he would stop tryin to attack my feet lol. Well he seems attached to the one yellow mouse. He has totally mangled the poor tory, No head remainds, only the body and the tail has been torn off as well. Now.. he tends to put this mouse in his food bowl and water bowl often. He use to only do it when they were empty so I figured it was his way of saying "HEY fill my food bowl!" But lately he's been doing this even when the water and food bowl are completely full. I dont really have a problem with it, but its a hassle havin to pull the soakin wet mouse out the water and get fresh water ( its pretty dirty and I dont feed my cat dirty old water) I was wonderin why he does this? Its amusing but annoyig at the same time. He only put the mangled yellow mouse in, none others. I dont want to throw his toy away either since he's so attached to it. Plus its given my feet a break from the torment.

Normal behavior. One of my mothers siameses constantly drops stuff into the water bowl. My persian would drink water with her paw - figure that one out. She'd dip her paw into the water then lick her paw.

The cat acts like its a real live mouse. Thats why its so mangled. It food. My cats do it with live ones, even birds, its just an instinct I guess

That's cute...LOL. My brother has two cats, male and female. One of them, when he says "it's time to go night-night", will go pick up all his "babies" (stuffed toys from McDonald happy meals) and carry them to the box my brother keeps them in. This same cat likes taking showers and if he trails litter out of the box or spills his food out of the bowl, he sweeps it in a pile with his paws till my brother gets it up.

My Cat has a favourite toy too. She brings it everywhere with her. She sleeps curls around it, she puts it next to her food & water. She also puts it on the ledge of the bathtub to "watch" me take a shower.
It is a nurtureing type of behavior. My Male cat used to do this too having his "toy" eat with him and bringing it everywhere.
Eventually they grow out of it. It is their way of saying "i'm your mommy, you can depend on me"
It's strangely cute in an odd sort of way.

he might think that his "prey" is real he may just be trying to clean the mouse so he can "eat" it

It's just his way of saying "Mine!"

Have a nice day!

do you give him enough attention ? sometimes he may just want to be cuddled and he may want to play , so throw his ty and he may chase after it , or play with a string !
