They don't, the atheists who attack the argument of the existence of god are attacking all belief in a supernatural being. Christianity gets singled out in debated more because Christians are rather aggressive about spreading their religion and wanting people to believe as they do.

Pagans do not care if others worship their gods. How often will you see a Pagan on a Atheist forum debating the existence of Thor or Odin? How often do you see Pagans knocking on doors preaching about the wonders of Anubis? You don't. But Christians do, because they feel its their mission to "spread the word" and "save souls."

Many atheists are ex-christians, they grew up with that religion which is why they know it so well and know it's weak points.

P.S. Any one who thinks an Atheist (one who has no belief what so ever in any god) and a Pagan (who generally is polytheistic, worshiping many gods) are the same thing, is not the sharpest crayon in the box.

Atheists object to the god or gods of organized religions (not just Christianity)
atheist comes from the Greek language=a(without)+theos(god)
Many people worship a higher being, or more than one higher being. For example the Aboriginal People worship the Sun-and Gaea--the Earth, but these higher beings are not God. Christians worship Christ and some worship Mary--neither is the God creator of the Universe. Usually the attackers use the muscles when they lack wisdom and knowledge. There are wise atheists and attacking Christians. I wish we could all love our neighbours don't you?

Not so much the Christian version, but the Christian and Muslim version. See, Christianity and Islam have something absolutely no other religion has - a compunction to preach and convert others. This means Christianity and Islam invariably try to convert the wrong people -- those who are quite content and happy with their beliefs. Now, if you take 6 people -- A hindu, a buddhist, a christian, a muslim, a jew, and an atheist and put them around an ant hill, and the christians and muslims start harrasing the poor ants who would like to just go on with their lives, while the hindu, buddhist, jew, and atheist mind their own business...

who do you think's gonna get stung?

Besides, we're not attacking a higher being. That'd be like saying I'm attacking a purple unicorn with a red horn. I'm attacking the idea you hold as true even though you have absolutely no objective evidence that it is.

I am an atheist and I attack no one's god. I think if people receive fulfillment and peace from believing in and worshiping a higher being, then who am I to stand in their way? I don't get offended by public displays of religious symbols either. What are my fellow atheists afraid of? That walking near a picture of the ten commandments or a crucifix will somehow magically convert you to a Jesus freak or something? Get over yourselves!!! Let's face it, this country was founded by Christians, with Christian values. I'm glad no one persecutes me for choosing atheism, so I express my gratitude by letting Christians enjoy the symbols and expression of their faith, without me whining about it or belittling them. Nowhere in the Constitution does it guarantee that you have the right to go through life un-offended. Be grateful that we live in a country where it's OK to be an atheist or a Christian, or a Jew, or a Muslim. If I were an atheist in Saudi Arabia, for example, I'd probably be killed for my lack of belief.

I have never heard of so many frightened atheists before. I live in Europe and we don't go door to door or handing out leaflets. God did not put a prize on your head atheist! You are picking on Christians like they did on Jews in the past. Isn't it ironic ppl of other religions are putting bombs in our trains and underground and you have nothing better to do than attack a peaceful teaching like the one of Jesus.
I recommend the atheist to learn about the ways of Buddha at least you get some enlightenment because believing in your own ignorance just won't do.

Christians have attempted to stop the progress of science several times throughout history. They also waste taxpayers' dollars on trying to create legislation that regulates morality as opposed to legislation to help the poor. They seem to be judgmental and feel they have the ONLY truth.

Pagans won't attempt to convert you. Furthermore, the MASS majority of us do not want any religion, including ours, in the government. We also broadly support science, but then again, we are not bound by a single book of dogma; progress and knowledge are to be valued and cherished. Intelligence is a gift, not a sin.

From what I've seen, most atheists don't actually preach against the Christian God, but rather against religious zealotry.

Because they are really pagans in disguise.

Today, many people call themselves atheists and it is frequently argued that atheism is the only rational viewpoint. However, it is also often said that there is no such thing as a real atheist. This is supported by the Bible which declares: “only a fool says in his heart that there is no God.”
So which view is correct?

If we give a just little thought to this matter, we can see that there is no argument at all as to whether the qualities and properties usually attributable to God actually exist. This is certain and beyond dispute. So really the only disagreement is over the source or origin of these attributes.

Furthermore, we can see that there are only 2 possible alternative sources of these attributes. It is self evident that something material can never come out of (absolute) nothing of its own accord (First Law of Thermodynamics). We know that something material exists (i.e. the universe), therefore something must have always existed, something must be eternal and have had no beginning.
This eternal something, can only be: 1. A force or power independent of the material, and thus the Creator of the material, OR 2. The material itself.
So an eternal nature must be possessed by, EITHER:
1. A Supernatural Power.
OR
2. Matter/energy.
Consequently, all the other qualities, powers and potentialities which exist in the universe must be attributable only to ONE OR OTHER of these two alternative 'eternal' sources.

Some of the qualities existing in the material world.
Laws of Science, Information & information storage (DNA etc.), Life, Design, Order, Motion, Love, Choice, Good, Beauty, Emotion, Intelligence, Kindness, Personality, Morality, Awareness, Justice, Wisdom, Hope, Joy, skill, etc.
There is no disagreement that these qualities are present in the universe. The only dispute is over the source or origin of these qualities.
SO
Is the stuff of the universe (matter/energy) eternal? Does this 'eternal matter' intrinsically possess all the above qualities, or the inherent potential to produce them of its own volition?
OR
Is there a power greater than, pre-existing and independent of, the material? A Supernatural Creator of the material, possessor and originator of all the above attributes evident in the material creation?
IT CAN ONLY BE ONE OR THE OTHER. SO THIS IS THE ONLY DISAGREEMENT, AND IT IS AN AGE OLD DISAGREEMENT.
No atheist would attempt to claim that mankind is the originator of all these qualities. We are not eternal, we did not create ourselves or the universe, something greater than us essentially exists' . Is that something a Supernatural Creator God? Or a purely material power which must intrinsically possess all the qualities, powers & potentialities usually attributed to a Supernatural Creator God? A material god? A pagan god!

THEREFORE, THE CHOICE IS CLEAR, FACE THE FACTS! ATHEISM (or even agnosticism) IS NOT AN OPTION. YOU MUST PAY HOMAGE TO A POWER WHICH IS GREATER THAN YOURSELF, either; The Creator God of the Bible, or; the material pagan god or gods' (represented by: Mother Earth, Nature, the Sun, Moon, or idols of stone, wood etc. ) which you must necessarily imbue with the SAME ATTRIBUTES.

SO NOW CHOOSE YOUR GOD?

I have seen atheist writings concerning Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism, so they are at least consistent. Not as much as with Christian, but I think that has more to do with the West being mostly Christian in nature and the aim is on the biggest target around.

I would have to say because many Christains are much more in your face and try to push their religion on others.

What really turned me into an Atheist is listening to debate on Evolution. I decided right then that I do not want these supposedly enlightened people show me their "truth" when the can't even use logic and reason.

well, ya seldom see Pagans proselytizing that their religion is the ONLY true path to "God". also Pagans don't seek to influence our secular government to insert Pagan dogma into the law of the land. and Pagans don't appear to have a desire to create a Pagan theocracy in America. i've never heard a Pagan call gay folks "abomination" nor do Pagans seek to assert control over women's wombs. and i've never been consigned to eternal torture by a Pagan. in other words, Pagans don't try to force their religious beliefs down the throats of nonPagans so their deities simply don't appear on the atheist/agnostic "hit list". if Fundy Christians weren't so pushy and aggressive your god wouldn't be scrutinized for flaws either.
