If we're allowed the freedom to worship whatever we want, why do we still have laws based on this religion?

Because of this Judeo-Christian tradition in our law, certain people have no rights. Pagan soldiers can't have a pentacle engraved on their headstone when they die in battle. And I think it's because this religion teaches that we're evil devil worshippers.

Actually, they aren't based on that religion. Some do match laws within that religion, but they aren't Based on Any religion... see: Treaty of Tripoli which expressly states America's Gov't is not based on the Christian religion. Then, also, see Code of Hammurabi... which are laws written by the Pagan King of Babylon, long before Moses was even born. (Which some scholars believe the laws in the Old Test were copied from during the Jewish captivity in Babylon).

Even if they were based on the laws in the Bible... it was be strictly Jewish Laws, not Christian... as, if anyone were to ask one, many Christians claim those laws are Done Away With when Jesus died.

If they get any more contradictory, they're going to have to write their own Bible... all together different from the one they have now.

Mostly we don't. Most of our laws are based on English common law and that goes back to before Christianity. Other laws we use are derived from Roman laws that also predate Christianity. The Idea that everything we do we owe to the Christians is a pernicious myth. If it was true than out legal system would resemble that of France or Italy and it does not.

Based on judeo christian laws, eh, I think i'll go find a virgin to get stoned.

We have laws based on religious laws because most people in the US believe in God. We also have them because even if we didn't believe in God, he has already set standards of right and wrong in things like murder and stealing. It doesnt exactly take a theologian to observe that these acts are wrong and should not be tolerated.

But actually we have many laws that contradict what God teaches us like abortion, and soon to be gay marriage. Give mankind enough time and we'll mess up anything!

What laws? (what country are you in too)
Like the "you can't work on the Sabbath" law
or the "Honor your parents" laws

Who told you this? They broke the imaginary "Don't Lie" law. (unless you take an oath, then you really can't)

There are only two commandments you may not break, and they existed as laws in other societies long before the bible.

Do not function under the delusion that the forefathers were Christians. Many were Deists and atheists/agnostics

Because the Judeo-Christian religion has some very good guidelines to work from, and all but one of the founding fathers of this country belonged to an organised Christian religion of some type. The one who didn't belong to a church still believed in God, but he just didn't adhere to any one denomination.

Because for 200 years, this WAS a Christian Nation. This was even determined by several Supreme Courts. Only modern secular extremists have made this an issue in recent years.

We had to start someplace, and since here in the US we are mostly a Christian nation, founded by men who were mostly Christians, it seemed like a good place to start. You still have the right to worship however you please. Freedom of religion means that the State does not impose a religious credo upon you.

Perhaps you would be more pleased living under the Laws of Sharia. All you would have to do is move to a Muslim country.

Because Western civilization is Judeo-Christian in origin. There must be only one standard of law in every country. To have more than one standard is to have no government at all---that is anarchy.

Because our nations were first formed when basically being non-christian was unheard of. every1 at the time of our nations birth was pratically christian. and on a side note...dont u think all the laws keep civilians pretty happy anywayz? God made the rules thousands of years ago, and they still work now.
