I heard this on YA yesterday and thought it was pretty catchy. (First posting of this Q got deleted for some reason?)

Someone who believed in God and then stopped believing in God never REALLY believed in God?

That's a strange concept. It's like saying... someone who has red hair and then dyes their hair blonde never REALLY had red hair to begin with.

Erm....

Yeah. They did.

I saw that a while back on YA. (Probably the same person who said it yesterday.) Just another attempt to portray Christianity as superior over other beliefs. Not all Christians profess that sentiment, but the ones who say "ex-Christians never were Christians" can't accept that a "true Christian" would ever leave the fold.

Hey! I went to church for quite a few years. I was young, and believed all that was preached. Was I a Christian ? I believed what all the others believed, I think that made me a Christian. When I began to question things like the trinity and virgin births I dropped all of my religious beliefs as just so much superstition.
So I can't go along with your idea, sorry.

Classic. Even better is when someone still *is* a christian, according to themselves, but some other christian doesn't like something the first one did, so the first one is not a "real" christian. Right. It's all simply so they can claim that christians can do no wrong, and no one ever leaves christianity cause it's so great. It's such a transparent self-serving lie that I can't believe anyone really swallows it.

i imagine that's probable to be authentic that many Christians who develop into atheist gained't have held their faith very strongly contained in the first position and that many atheists who develop into theists were probable not atheists as a results of a severe interest of the lack of knowledge for gods because there nonetheless isn't any. although, I and many different persons have continually taken my beliefs and disbeliefs heavily - i want to imagine issues through and base my reviews on conclusions reached through interpreting and wondering. subsequently even as i replaced right into a Christian i replaced into an evangelical, bible interpreting, continually praying, deeply dedicated individual who extremely believed I felt the holy spirit in me and now i'm a competent atheist making my reviews heard. concept, interpreting, diagnosis, rationalising is major to me as a results of the indisputable fact that's to many others. it variety of feels a lot extra probable that deeper severe concept will turn a theist into an atheist than an atheist right into a theist and persons do have a tendency to modify their reviews as a results of age and reason and journey. in short i'm putting forward that Christians are commonly incorrect to imagine that atheists weren't in any respect perfect Christians contained in the first position yet atheists are commonly proper to imagine that Christians weren't in any respect thoughtful atheists. That sounds extremely biased and doubtless that's so I make no absolute declare for it being the case yet experience the data that extra theists develop into atheist than atheists develop into theists as they attain adulthood.

It's 100% true. To be a Christian means you are a child of God...most people who "THINK" they were Christians were people who went to a church for a time, probably got offended by some hypocrite or other that they saw and decided to give up on RELIGION....but they NEVER believed to begin with. You can't get "Born Again" and then get Unborn......not scriptural!

Yes I love it. As a former Christian and now a current Buddhist, I have to say when I was a Christian I went all out and was 'saved'. I take my religions seriously. I have been told this one before.

I can only assume that the author never questioned ex-Christians before writing it.

Once saved, always saved. So how if ur alwayz saved, can u be an ex-christian...? u cant undo being saved, so therefore, if ur an ex-christian, u must have never been saved in the first place. because u cant "x" out being saved.

I say this is not true. Because some of the most devout Christians have left it.

Does not mean a thing. Backsliding has happened forever....they may or may not have been true Christians.
