You might be able to get a escent car for $100. But DO NOT go to an auto dealer! Search DILLIGENTLY in the newspapers, for the car you can buy for what you HAVE NOW! DO NOT go into debt to PAY for that!! My car was SMASHED in a MAJOR accident and it took ME a MONTH to find the car that I wanted. ALWAYS go to a TRUSTED mechanic, and pay him/her about $50 to give the car a good looking over, BEFORE you make the decision to buy it.

Depending on your age and how bad your credit actually is, you should be able to get a car somewhere. If you have a decent job that you've had for a couple of years, and your credit isn't real bad you might want to try a dealership for a new car. It's really not that hard nowadays, especially if age and a steady job isn't a factor. Just be realistic and go for a less expensive model.

You might have to give in and buy at a "Buy here Pay here" place though. If you do have to go to one of these places make sure to ask if they report your payments to credit agencies. THIS IS A MUST to build your credit! If they act like they don't know what they're talking about or give vague answers go try somewhere else. You could try asking them which credit agency they report to, there are three major ones. I can't think of the names right now though!

With that down payment, why don't you buy a new car with a warranty? The payments won't be that much more, and the deals right now are very good. Car sales are down, so your credit score will probably just mean a higher APR than if you had excellent credit.

You can go to any dealer and they can get you credit. Watch out for that high interest rate. If you are going used and you want a Japanese mid size try a Honda Accord, Subaru Legacy or Toyota Camry. They dependable, reliable and safe. Don't let a sales person try to tell you what yo want and can afford. You tell them what you want and don't be afraid to negotiate.
