I just got my mom a gorgeous little 8 week old (male) kitten for her birthday..we all love him, but my 3 and 9 year old (female) cats are VERY upset...The 9 year old won't get off my bed, and is actually throwing up, and sleeping alot, and the 3 year old is mad at me and the kitten, she won't let me touch or pet her anymore, and she not only hisses at the kitten, but me too now. Now i'm not completely cat stupid, I know the girls are just showing him who's in charge, but will they eventually come around?? I love them both very much but at the same time I don't want to get rid of the kitten, my mom loves him and so do I!!!

I don't know how you introduced them, but if you just threw them together, they may never get along. On the other hand, it may all work out. You need to give it time and you need to keep everyone supervised at all times unless you lock the little one away when you're gone. You may have to introduce them all over again and the way I would do it is put the new kitten in a room all his own with food, water and litterbox. Then for limited times, switch the kitten and all the other cats. In other words, let the kitten out and put the rest of the cats in the room where you had the kitten. Do that for about a week or two and then let them mix. It'll be much easier.

I know this isn't an answer but they may or may not come around. You just have to give them time. Maybe even months for them to get use to the little one, however it is not a bad thing that they are older because if they do come around the kitten will help keep the older cats active by playing and that's never a bad thing. Make sure that you get him neuter ASAP because he will try to show them who is boss later by spraying everywhere and once that starts it doesn't stop no matter how much you clean!

We've been in our house for 6 years and my two old biddies still have not accepted his smaller, younger one. He also had an older male who wasn't intimidated, but he'd spray. We had to watch for that til the day he died. One of mine is still on tranquilizers because she pulls her fur out over it. I think if you have limited space, they'll eventually sort it out. If you see the fur pulling, you might need a med for the cat. We have a huge old house so they didn't need to learn to get along, but we have to divide our time between parts of the house so everyone gets enough attention. Strange thing - they share the yard and porches with no problems.

It'll take a couple of weeks, but they'll come around. Just don't ignore them, it'll make them more jealous of the kitten.
