I want to travel south this January. I am travelling with 5 other people but everyone wants to go to somewhere different. The places range from Cuba, Dominican Republic to Costa Rica and other similar locations. I have never been to any of these places but I have heard wonderful things about Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Would anyone recommend one of these places over another? Which to choose?

Thank you for responding. Sorry, I should have mentioned that I am from Canada. (there are direct flights)

I think your biggest hurtle is for all of you to agree where the most interest is. What are you going for? beer, history, Eco tourist, bike riding, scuba diving, sunny beaches? which place offers a good diversity of the things your group wants. Remember your not joined at the hip when you get there. You can split up, take tours or is there good local transport. That can be a blast and you meet the people. You will LOVE which ever place you end up at. Don't forget to try a few words in their language even when they can speak English. Keep a local map with you and your hotel name and address. Warm winds to you all.

I believe that if you want to go to Cuba, you cannot get there directly from the United States.
