How do I format a DVD-RW or DVD-R Disc, what program do I use?, I already tried NERO but that only has the option to erase. The DVDs are blank so there is nothing to erase. I need to format so that I can record on a seperate component system, which is requiring that I format the disc.

I am using a VCR to DVD recorder and It is giving me an error, showing that I cannot record to the DVD-R disc. The manual says it can, and it's new system

You shouldnt need to format them! They come pre formatted! Seperate component system? You lost me there! Give details in what you are trying to do!

Usually the component device (e.g. DVD Recorder) will let you format the disc if it sees the disc as being unformatted.

if u want to do multi recording u can set the dvd on nero to multi session this means u can use it to copy files from and to.. rather than just 1 big burning session.
