Do you have to get cleaned up to take a bath?

Same for getting saved. But once you are saved, you will want to go to church to learn about Jesus and to be among like-minded believers.

Dear Pothead,

In order to be saved one has to confess Christ and genuinely believe in His work on the cross. The sincerity of our profession of faith is seen in our actions- as Jesus said: If you love me you will obey my commandments.

One of the things Jesus has commanded in Hebrews 10:23-25 is that we should not forsake assembling with other believers. I guess the question would be more- why aren't you going to church? Church is supposed to be a place where you can serve, receive encouragement, and love other believers.

While the Bible does not state anywhere that going to church is a necessary for salvation. Some of the things you have to consider is where are you getting your beliefs from. And once again not going to church is quite a reflection of your heart- at the end only Jesus can judge your heart but i think whatever reasons you are not going can be overcomed...

Feel free to email me with your personal situation... i'm a 33 year old youth/college pastor who can give you an objective biblical opinion...

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

Define Church;
A church is just a building when people are in it,It is still just a building. The meaning of church is actually a place where people gather to seek and be closer to god. so actually the people are the church which is also the body of Christ. so no your wanting to be saved is truly between you and your savior what happens after your saved you feel within. it's indescribable. and different for everyone. You'll see and God bless you Psalm 91

The repentant thief on the cross didn't.
He couldn't.

Hopefully by going to church people can find out the need of being saved and how to be saved.

And, once they have been saved, they should want to go to Church for fellowship with other believers and, together, to have fellowship with the Father and with His Son.

It is good to go to a place of worship regularly for numerous reasons. It is a way of meeting people who share the same spiritual beliefs as you do or if you are new there, it gives you a chance to get your self acquaintanted with ones that can help you spiritually. Heb. 10:24,25 talks about this.

According to the bible, no one is saved yet. In Matt 10:22, Jesus tells his apostles that he who endures to the end is saved. And to my understanding, "the end" is either your death or Armageddon and neither of those has happened yet. Plus, it would be presumptuous of myself to assume that I will be saved because only God knows and decides who will be saved or not.

It depends. Do you believe you need Christian fellowship, communion, and to do the things Jesus told us to do in order to be saved?

Look, Im not saying that we are saved on the basis of THINGS we do. We are saved by grace through faith AUTHENTICATED by our good works. Jesus told us to do things like baptize, teach, preach and disciple in his name. So that is basically why the church is there, its not just a social club or Gods meaningless decoration here on earth. Are we saved because we go to church? No. Are we saved if we avoid church? NOOO! People who avoid church have problems in their faith and arent doing the things Jesus told us to do!

Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Sitting in a building won't get it done, neither will baptism. If you are of the elect, you will recognize your condition, dead in sin, and your need for a savior, Christ. It is only through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is this possible. Someone who is lost and spiritually dead does not recognize his condition nor care about being saved. Man on his own will not seek God or salvation. The fact that you are asking this could be a good sign.

Not sure if your question is sincere or if it's meant as a joke, but I will go with sincere for now. I think you may be putting the cart before the horse. God adds you to the church when you are baptized/saved.

"Remember to keep the Sabbath holy" This is best done by attending a Eucharist service or Sacrifice of the Mass, "Do this in memory of Me".

So if you want to obey Jesus, you will want to attend church at least on the Sabbath for a commemoration or symbolic reinactment (if you like) of Jesus' redeeming sacrifice on the Cross.

So go to celebrate the Eucharist because Jesus asked us to.
