No.

Everyone is invited to fast and pray for 40 days in preparation for the Resurrection of the Lord at Easter.

Catholics in the United States are obliged to abstain from the eating of meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays during the season of Lent.

They are also obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday.

Self-imposed observance of fasting on all weekdays of Lent is strongly recommended. This is where people also give up chocolate, sarcasm, or something else for Lent.

With love in Christ.

I think it's often emphasized more in Catholicism than in Protestant denominations, but I've seen Lutherans, Episcopalians, Methodists and Presbyterians all take part. I'd assume others do too.

I think it's for Christians, but I haven't heard of any other branch of Christianity celebrating it. I do not, by any means, know everything about religion, so I can be wrong.
