Is it okay to fast while you are pregnant? Is it okay to just drink vitamin drinks for the day you fast- and if so, what kind of vitamin drinks?

NO.

Do not ever ever ever ever EVER fast while you're pregnant.

Seriously, I can't stress this enough.

DO - NOT - FAST - WHILE - PREGNANT.

I'm sure your deity will understand that you'll be skipping out on depriving yourself of food because, this time, you're not JUST depriving yourself.

Fasting while pregnant is ok as long as your baby is not in danger. If the days are short and you drink plenty of water before and after you and the baby will be ok. I fasted with my first most of Ramadan in my 9th month and had no problems at all. I stopped fasting when my doctor told me to stop. With my second I could not fast as I had diabetes. I would speak to your doctor and make sure it is ok. But some doctors say fasting is not good for the body at all and that is not true. Fasting is good for the body and gives your stomach a well needed break. But when you are pregnant you have more then yourself to be concerned with. Remember you baby comes first when it comes to things like fasting. You can always fast after you have the baby.

And about what you can and can not do while fasting depends on the religion you belong to. In Islam you fast from sunrise to sunset. No food, water, sexual intercourse, ect.... But for those who are sick, pregnant, breast feeding, traveling are excused if they are not able to fast.

In the Holy Bible, in Isaiah 58:1-14, Matt 6:16-17, Matt 17:14-21, it talks about fasting (my pastor has been teaching this). I think what ur asking about is a full fast, & no, I don't think that is healthy while ur pregnant. However, there r other types of fasting: partial fasting--like eliminating certain foods/junk food. Ultimately, I think the best kind of fast 4 u while ur pregnant would be to deprive ur flesh of things u like to do (activities) for a # of days. Pray & find peace w/ur decision, & if ur still unsure, ask ur pastor or elder in ur church.

If memory serves, both Islam and Judaism frequently _exempt_ sick people (and I think this includes pregnant women) from the demands of a fast, if it might be "injurious to life".

I'm a Goddess-worshipping Pagan myself....but think the Eternal prefers that people be _very conservative_ when it comes to pregnancy and nursing....it's not **just** you that could be affected by fasting. (Your mileage may vary; this is my own opinion.)

Your health care provider would be the best source to talk to, medically. If you're looking to do something for a SPIRITUAL discipline, why not "fast" from, oh, television or movies, or gossip/backbiting, or from junk food, for a week or longer? Won't hurt your physical health or the fetus to "give up" some luxury/pleasure item or a character defect....and it might be a nice practice of control.

I would consult your doctor. What kind of fast is it? There are so many. We muslims fast during ramadan, but it from before dawn until the sunsets. My friend did this throughout her entire pregnancy and had a healthy happy baby boy. It was also the last month of her pregnancy. But it is not required for pregnant women, although many do it. Of course there are different fasts. Some fast for days at a time with no food, ours is just from before dawn until sunset, so we do get the nutrition from our meals. I would just suggest that you eat a well balanced meal, not to many starches, they do not last long. But protien and whole grains along with lots of veggies and fruit. JMO, ask your doctor first.

I think u may fast as long as u r giving ur body and baby all what they need, especially vitamins and calcium coz ur cacium is being absorbed from ur baby...In Islam, pregnant women may break their fasting if there is a danger on the mother's life :) best wishes for u and i wish u an easy delievery :)

no it is not wise to fast while pregnant and the church would not advise it either.
for practical reasons it is wrong as the unborn child needs sustenance from mother.
there are other ways for a pregnant Mother to fast which the Lord will accept just as well, for instance you could fast from alcohol for the term of the pregnancy or candy, or from television which is quite a good fast actually and not too easy.

No, it is not OK to fast when you are pregnant.

You have a little person growing inside you, and that little person needs you to eat a balanced diet in order to grow right.

I don't know the rules about fasting for any specific religion, but I think you will find that pregnant women are not required to fast -

and if not then it is a cruel religion...

This is a health question, but no. It is not ok. Depriving the growing baby of nutrients (you need food not just vitamins) can inhibit the baby's growth. You are basically starving it, and during pregnancy the baby can not afford this as it is a critical time for growth.

I seriously hope you're not pregnant.
Maybe you should have got some education before you had sex.
What a truely idiotic question.

FIRST if you knew ANYTHING about juicing/fasting you'd know that as well as not being proper nutrition to live on regularily, it releases TOXINS.
You think babies like those? You should not even be fasting if you don't even know something as simple as this.

I work for a doctor, he said NO. He said vitamin drinks are not the same for your baby, as food. Please, do your fasting after you deliver and have weaned your baby if you plan on nursing. Everything you eat, drink, do, and even smell can in one form or another affect your unborn child. Good Luck!
